In 2010, METTKO was awarded the contract to deliver the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s long anticipated Municipal Offices. Leveraging the principles and potential cost and sustainability benefits of adaptive re-use, the Town chose to develop the New Municipal Offices project utilizing an existing 60,000 sq. ft. office building. Working closely and collaboratively with the Town throughout the planning, design and construction process, METTKO assisted the Town in defining and designing efficient and flexible space for all Town functions and services and delivering the project via METTKO’s innovative Hybrid Delivery Model™.
“The acquisition of this building was a great decision, from both a financial and long term planning perspective. Our new facility has everything that is necessary to serve the needs of the community for years to come.” said Mayor Wayne Emmerson.
Completed by METTKO on time and on budget, the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville held the official Grand Opening of its New Town Hall of Saturday, September 24th, 2011 which coincided with the 40th Anniversary of the Town’s incorporation in 1971.
Mayor Wayne Emmerson stated wholeheartedly, “I encourage residents and business owners to join Town Council and Staff as we celebrate these two momentous events. We have worked hard, and collectively, to provide a space that we can utilize as a community for years to come – we look forward to celebrating our achievements together.”
Kicking off with a ribbon cutting, events of the day also included flag raising by the Mayor and Town staff, guided tours of the New Town Hall, commemorative tree plantings, and a 40th Anniversary barbeque and cake cutting.
METTKO is proud to have assisted the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville to deliver this highly successful project initiative. The cooperation and collaboration between the Town and METTKO that delivered was best expressed by Marc Pourvahidi, Town Director of Finance/Treasurer:
“I wanted to take a moment and thank you and your team for the great job METTKO has done for the Town with respect to the construction of the new Municipal offices. Your commitment and the cooperation of your staff throughout the process were outstanding.”
The New Town Hall, and the new Customer Service Centre coined by the Town as a ‘one-stop shop’ for residents and businesses requiring information and services, is located at 111 Sandiford Drive, Stouffville.
May 5th, 2011 marked the 25th Anniversary of METTKO providing professional project management, construction management and construction service to public and private sector clients throughout Canada, the United States and internationally. A proud day for a firm recognized as a pioneer in the industry that it continues to be a leader and innovator.
In recognition of this milestone, METTKO held a 25th Anniversary Gala celebration at Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto, Ontario - a fitting venue for the occasion as the National Ballet School, an outstanding contribution to development of the arts in Canada, was successfully managed and delivered by METTKO a number of years earlier.
At the 25th Anniversary event Mo Ettehadieh, CEO and President and METTKO staff welcomed many past and present clients and business partners with the evening highlighted with an address by the firm’s founder Paul Sims (retired).
The evening’s theme encompassed the firm’s underlying philosophy of leveraging the lessons and successes of the past while endeavoring to bring innovation and excellence to all that we do in the future.
METTKO is City of Burlington’s Project Manager for the Brant Street Pier Project
April 21st, 2011
In April 2011 METTKO was retained to provide professional project management services to assist the City of Burlington to complete the much anticipated Brant Street Pier project, a unique and final phase of the City’s ambitious and innovative Downtown Waterfront Project.
With completion scheduled for the spring of 2013, the Brant Street Pier will be a signature destination and attraction in Spencer Smith Park at The Waterfront for residents and tourists alike. The pier’s cutting-edge design will extend 132 metres over Lake Ontario, providing breathtaking views of the lake and an opportunity to see Burlington’s shoreline and cityscape from a unique vantage point. Aligned with the City’s vision for the project, a concrete walkway will connect the pier to the existing promenade in the east end of the park. The pier’s distinctive S-shaped design and look-out level above the deck will offer outstanding lake and city view vantage points while also providing day-use docking for recreational and tour boats. Contributing to the City’s emphasis of sustainability, the Brant Street Pier will feature a wind turbine to generate renewable energy for all pier and district lighting.
A brief history of the Brant Street Pier
In 2002, the City of Burlington laid out a plan to enhance the downtown waterfront. Improvements included upgrades to Lakeshore Road; attractive entrance features; the development of a Waterfront Centre; a water feature and playground; a combined retail, office and parking building on Locust Street; and the Brant Street Pier. Much of the Waterfront at Downtown Burlington is now complete and attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. When completed the Brant Street Pier, located at the foot of Burlington’s historic Brant Street, will the crown jewel of the City’s Downtown Waterfront project initiative and Lake Ontario shoreline.
In December of 2010 METTKO was awarded the contract to assist the Town of Wasaga Beach in the planning, design and construction of the Town’s new fire station. To meet the current and future emergency services response requirements of the Town, the new fire hall will be a modern, efficient 15,000 sq. ft. facility featuring apparatus bays, vehicle maintenance and equipment storage areas as well as dormitory area with kitchen facilities and a locker room.
Leveraging its experience on other recent fire station / emergency services facility projects, METTKO and the Town’s project staff and Fire Chief are collaborating closely on the planning and design of the facility which is being delivered via METTKO’s Hybrid Delivery Model™ to ensure that the Town ultimately achieves their project objectives in relation to schedule, cost and quality while meeting the expectations of the Town’s Fire Department.
